Agent was very pleasant and helpful. Said I should be approved within a few hours or by next day. Still no approval after 48 hours. I uploaded the wrong letter in the beginning but no one reached out to tell me why I was not approved. Three calls from me and still no approval. Losing my patience!!!

User's recommendation: Tell folks upfront about the wait to get an EFIN and be specific with them on what they need for approval.

Drake is very poorly run

I accidentally entered in the wrong EIN (my LLC but one I didn't have to prepare a return for) and they refuse to work with me to give me a refund for this mistake. They never provided the service so in my opinion that is stealing and not their money. Their software is super outdated, not user friendly, makes tax preparation take 3x longer than even doing it on paper. Their prices are low but that reflects their quality. Don't recommend this to anyone.

Black-listed the country I work from

I am an Enrolled Agent with over 20 years in the tax preparation business. I have loved Drake Software since I started using them in 2013. I am now semi-retired and spend half the year in Mexico. In the midst of tax season they decided to black-list 85 countries, Mexico being one of them. No warning at all! They just stopped access to their sites! After hours on the phone with tech support, who knew nothing about this I finally got a call back from upper management who provided this shocking information! I am so disillusioned and angry with them! I found a work-around but I'll be looking for different software for next tax season.

You're going to get the same restrictions on foreign use with any other software. I'm surprised it took Drake this long to block.

While the software itself could use multiple improvements (prior year input access in current year), I am always satisfied with every phone call Ive had to put in to Drakes customer support. Super friendly, always ALWAYS has a solution. Probably one of my top 3 best customer service entities I deal with.

Have worked with Drake Software for more than 10 years. Not perfect but overall very satisfied until last year. When real estate taxes are deducted on multiple forms they do not reconcile to $10,000 limitation on Schedule A. For 2019 I was able make adjustment on line 6 of Schedule A. For 2020 (and now updated to 2019) no negative adjustment permitted in software. Told to paper file.

No customer service to retain customers

There is a $400 discount till May 31 and because of the long weekend and technical glitches i missed to renew.

I have been a customer for 12+ years usually all companies are good about these misses by a single day. Very disappointed with the response to a loyal customer:(

They extended the $400 renewal discount till June 1st, I know this because that is the day that I renewed my software. Also, the early renewal discounts expire on the same schedule as they have for the past 20 years that I have been using the software.

If you've been purchasing the product for 12 years you should be aware of this schedule too. I once went to McDonald's with a coupon that had expired the previous day. I wasn't aware that the coupon was expired even though they print the expiration day on the coupon.

The kind lady told me they couldn't accept this because it was expired. Me knowing that this was completely my fault for not checking the date apologized to that young lady and I paid for my meal at regular price.

I ordered fish tacos to go. And Sam tarazon treated me very poorly. Someone please call me. The last time I ate at drakes was in March and I dined in the restaurant. And was treated very well. One of the mgrs. even held a conversation with me. Not sure whats going on now but she wS very unprofessional.

I have used Drake Software since 1989. They are a very remarkable company and their service is unmatched in the industry. I am a CPA and I am not a Drake employee. The fact they are privately owned puts them above the rest. Intuit will nickel and dime you to death for anything they can; Drake provides tax software to cover personal and business returns for $1,095 per year for clients who renew their license. I have been to their Offices in Franklin TN and know some of their staff by name. They are good folks with a sound business model to serve their clients. I hope they never go public and get ruined.

I have been using Drake for 13 years. It's the software my grandma used before she passed in 2007 and I took over her practice so I kept going with it. In 2007, things were great, never had a problem, and customer service was exceptional. Over time, the customer service especially has dwindled. As mentioned by another consumer, its a daunting task to move many clients to a new platform which is also why I haven't changed software yet. This year, I reluctantly tried their Drake Hosted on the Citrix platform. It was a bad idea and I would not recommend it. It's 2/22/2020, considered "tax season/tax time", and Drake Hosted has been down going on 4 days for "unscheduled maintenance". So I haven't been able to complete tax returns that I had started (they weren't even courteous enough to let me know ahead of time) or start new ones either. Super unacceptable! I could have backed up Drake on Hosted and restored to my local copy so that I could at least be working during this time, but I cant access any information or documents.

If something is "unscheduled maintenance" how far in advance are they supposed to notify you? Also, if you put everything on a cloud service with no local access to it, you're asking for trouble.

I know Drake does a backup of what is on their server but I also keep one locally.

As a fellow Drake user, this season has been challenging for all. As long as we don't set ourselves up for failure, everything can run smoothly.

Drake Software - I like it but they need to fix this!

In their 2019 software you are now required to answer the IRS virtual currency question. The problem is they put this question on the foreign accounts page and now when you answer the virtual currency question your are forced by the software to answer all the foreign account questions also even if the client does not file schedule B.

Drake tax software is fast, easy to update, affordable. I have been using drake software for 18 years. Many tax software want me to change, but I would not. I also like Client write up accounting software, but now they are change it to Drake accounting. It is just too much problems especially I use it in the network.I wish they keep CWU

Did pencil and paper file since 1975 until IRS forced us into efile. I chose Drake and hit the ground running, after a few initial questions. I like that the software follows a paper file format. When I hit a snag, I call support. NEVER, and I mean that, have I had bad service. When asked if I mind being put on hold, I respond that I'm asking for help and it that is what it takes, absolutely do not mind. Kindness goes much farther than bitchiness
